Healing Doesn’t Always Feel Good at First

Healing is often portrayed as peaceful and relieving, but in reality, it can feel uncomfortable, confusing, or even destabilizing at times. This doesn’t mean something is going wrong.

When the nervous system begins to shift out of long-held patterns, sensations and emotions that were once muted may resurface. This is a sign of increased awareness, not regression.

Holistic mental health care emphasizes pacing. Somatic and energy-based approaches help ensure the system isn’t overwhelmed as change unfolds. The goal isn’t to push through discomfort, but to support the body as it adjusts.

With the right support, moments of discomfort tend to pass, making room for greater regulation and resilience. Healing isn’t about feeling good all the time. It’s about building safety, capacity, and trust with yourself, one step at a time.
